What a workout!

October 4, 2007

At around 5 months, Gregory was a seasoned veteran at the task of scooting. He would use his army crawl to get his chunky little fingers on his toys, Grandma Ortiz' plants, Lucy's toys, and anything else he could reach.Greg loved to get a frame from our enterntainment center and stare at it...the picture happened to be of himself. Like father, like son.

Little by little, Greg's arms and legs got stronger and therefore, his scoot became an actual crawl. From one day to another (literally), he was crawling every where. He thought he was so fast that many of times, he thought he could catch Lucy as Lucy tried to get away from him. Now, Greg has a walker that he uses frequently to exercise his athletic legs. And just last week, my Aunt Silvia gave him a toy similar to the traditional walker where he hangs onto a bar for support but has to use his legs for balance and propulsion. The parents can barely keep up with Greg. They will have to join a gym in order to keep up with him. Although, Sean just informed me that he is enrolled in a fitness program called R.A.G.

Better Than Formula

October 4, 2007

Still no teeth, but loving solid foods. Or at least semi-solid.

Oh yes, Gregory has ventured into the territory of bananas, carrots, peas, sweet potatos, and any other liquified fruits and veggies that Gerber can think to run through a blender and put in a jar. Greg has also had the privilege of tasting Grandma Ortiz' home cooking. Grandma Ortiz has made him delicious entrees like chicken puree with pureed veggies...mmm...tasty. Greg has also had Mexican bread, Mexican pop, Mexican rice, Mexican beans, and even a Mexican fried taco.

Recently, Greg took a trip to Chuck E. Cheese with his cousin Audri. They both had a lot of fun especially when it came time to eat pizza and Bomb Pops. Greg had his first taste of one of his Mom's favorites, pepperoni pizza. He was not as thrilled but I am confident that he will come to love it. For dessert, Audri was nice to share her Bomb Pop with Greg. He LOVED it.

Grrrrreg's First Halloween

October 5, 2007

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! No this is not a Wizard of Oz production, this is the likely line-up for Halloween 2007. While there is likely to be lions and bears, we know for a fact, there will be a ferocious tiger on the prowl. With his black nose, sharp claws, and soft gums, he will terrorize you and will not let you sleep. (Just ask his parents.) The tiger might be coming to your town so afraid, be very afraid.

Greg's First Christmas!

December 6, 2007

Well it's that time of the year again. The Christmas season is upon us, however, this year it is a little more special for us than usual. And with the running around, decorating, shopping, and all the activities that come with the season, the Van Auken family wants to make sure that we take the time to thank all the people that have been there for us and helped us throughout our first year of parenthood. We truly appreciate everything you've done for us.

Greg seems to be pretty excited about the upcoming holiday. His mood has been very upbeat lately, dispite a nasty ear infection, a bad cold, and a new rash he seemed to have acquired somewhere. (We think he's allergic to strawberries.) The Van Auken home is going sans tree this year due to Gregory's ever increasing mobility. Along with his mobility, his throwing ability is also developing quite nicely.

As for his Christmas List, it looks something like this.

  • Clothes
    • Long sleeved shirts (Onesie style) : 12-18 months
    • Pants, both jeans and cotton style : 12-18 months
  • Toys
    • Balls - should be soft enough not to hurt Lucy when they hit her
    • Blocks - these probably better be soft also
    • Big cars and trucks
    • Just about any item from Taggies - Website (The kid loves tags)
    • Pretty much anything that has movement and/or sounds.
